Welcome to my Catholic Blog

I am a convert to Catholicism. I left fundamentalist Christianity to become a Catholic.

My reasons for leaving fundamentalism were that I was dismayed by its teaching that everyone who does not accept their theology is going to hell for eternity. What if someone doesn't believe because he never heard? Because he was mistreated by Christians? What if someone just makes a mistake?

Catholicism--at least most versions of it--allows for the possibility that non-Christians will be saved if they look for God with an open heart and do what is right according to their consciences.

My reason for becoming a Catholic is that I fell in love with Mary and felt her loving presence in my life. I wanted to have a relationship with her and felt that the best place to do this was in the Catholic Church. I have also learned to love St. Anthony in a deep and tender way.

This blog will focus on my doubts, struggles, joys, and failures as I try to lead a life as a good lay Catholic. I will do my best to make this blog one that covers topics of broad interest and that will help you as you struggle with religious questions.

I wrote a poem once in which I said I would spend my life swinging between faith and doubt. Often, my doubts are far stronger than my faith. Therefore, this will not be an "inspirational" website but one in which I struggle with faith, ask the hard questions, and probably express opinions that would make the pope faint.

I hope that in some small way that this blog helps others who regard religious questions as important but who don't have easy answers.
